Baptism celebrates becoming a new person as we receive a new identity in Christ Jesus. That’s why the church’s ritual begins with putting off the old, renouncing sin and pledging our commitment to Christ. Through baptism, your new identity, Christian, is declared and Christ now claims you and instructs you. A Christian is one who has “put on Christ.”
